Sarah and Kyle are married!

Sarah and Kyle were married in Payson, AZ October 3. Being on the setup crew as Sarah's cousin, I was able to snap a few pictures of setting up the reception. Kyle's parents then invited everyone to their house in town for a scrumptous meal catered by their neighbors, which they said they had been cooking for over several months. Kyle and his sister Katy surprised their parent's with a wonderful Katy-designed 30th Anniversary cake at the rehearsal meal. Surrounded by family and friends, what better way to spend the night before their wedding!
As a guest, I was able to snap a few pictures of Sarah before the wedding. Her eyes just sparkled with happiness. Her father, my uncle, was so pleased to walk her down the aisle. After a slideshow and exchange of vows, Sarah and Kyle beamed as they walked down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs. Shober..., er, I mean Mr. and Mrs. Conway. Everyone then joined them and danced the afternoon away at the reception.
Congratulations Kyle and Sarah! Thank you so much for allowing me to take a "few" photos! Welcome to the family Kyle!

Angela and Tom are married!

Angela and Tom were married in the new exposed-timber frame Laramie Valley Chapel on 4801 Quarter Horse Drive in Laramie, Wyoming. To compliment their engagement pictures taken at the Simpson Plaza and around the University of Wyoming, we braved the Wyoming winds and photographed the groom and bride portraits seperately at the Union with a brief stop at the Simpson Plaza as we were blown towards the car. They celebrated their wedding with a reception at Hilton Garden Inn and UW Conference Center on 2229 Grand Ave.

Tom and Angela, may the happiness you saw in each other's eyes be with you always! Thank you so much for choosing me to document your wedding day and retell that special day! Your amazing job planning really showed in how the day flowed.

Matthew and Kristin are engaged!

Matthew and Kristin joined me for a playful walk in Lion's Park and a step closer to getting to know their inner child while visiting the new interactive Children's Village in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We visited the nearby Community Hall for a quick clothing change and looked at their reception hall. Hopefully we'll have a warm sun and new snow for their December wedding to showcase the lake. My photographic eye and mind were coming up with all kinds of possible compositions! Can't wait for the wedding!

Nalty 50th Anniversary June 2009

The Nalty's celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a wonderful garden party at the Hudson Gardens on 6115 S Santa Fe Dr in Littleton, Colorado. After a quick impromptu senior photo shoot, guests started arriving to mix and congratulate the happy couple. The menu was a great mix of chicken, corn, berries and a smores dessert - a Nalty family favorite! With a little encouragement, everyone gathered outside the tent in front of a rock bridge that the children couldn't resist. Getting whatever family groupings that would get together, the crowd teased and occasionally taunted the family in the spotlight. What better way to remember the party than with pictures! Congratulations Nalty's on the 50 wonderful years and here's to many more!

These two boys weren't sure about those studio lights at first, but soon realized we were all there to just play (and occasionally look at the camera!). I don't envy you parents choosing the entry photo - my favorites vary each time I see those vivid blue eyes! Thanks Jerry and Carey for bringing in the boys and doing a great job of having fun!

These photographic courses are geared towards the owner of the canon digital rebel camera to teach them how to understand what their camera is doing through by a hands-on approach combining theory and practice. Spend time looking at your camera and practicing. Kami is always nearby to help. Learn to take better pictures in a relaxed environment.

Sat. Feb. 16 9:00 am - 10:00 am Step 1: Learning how your camera sees the world – Understand what that dial does on your camera and how to get a different look in your picture based on focus.

Sat. Mar. 29 9:00 am - 10:00 am Step 2: Seeing the world as your camera sees – Practice creating one line out of a row of trees and other compositional techniques and understand what effect your lenses have on your picture.

Sat. April 26 9:00 am - 10:00 am Step 3: Practice, practice, practice – to become one with your camera – A workshop where the first half is dedicated to photographing and the second half is a friendly critique of everyone’s work.

Instructor Kami Shober, Shober Photography, enjoys educating and learning from others. All learning levels and styles are welcome. Please bring your camera to each session.

I joined Daysha at her Grandma's house filled w/ toys and natural light! Daysha played on her Brio train table while occasionally checking out the packages under the tree. Commercial Shoot - Kami's first Billboards!

Working with this commercial client is always enjoyable! The last two marketing shoots have consisted of traveling about the WY countryside visiting board members and employees. Talk about a small world, my grandpa (who passed away about two years ago) had been to visit one of the families several years back. Not only do I meet great people, hear interesting history about the area, but I also get to run around and take pictures of anything I want! I love my job! Photographing a new baby for their very first portraits is one of those experiences that I love about my career! Being that close to someone so small reminds me of how precious each little finger can be. Typically when babies are born by c-section, new families can't be together right away. Pictures of the newborn can even be displayed through the room tv! A shoot on the day of going home can show how excited everyone was for the new one to arrive. Shawna and Levi are married!

What a colorful wedding! Not only did Shawna look great w/ her red gown (striped red & black tights underneath too!), but look at the fall colors! With the clouds threatening to break at any moment, Shawna & Levi were married at the WPA building with photos outside w/ the brilliant colors. The Halloween theme even shows up in Shawna's nails! There were so many details to photograph that I had an extremely hard time choosing which pictures to include.

The NIC's Evening in Versialles took place in Casper, WY August 13, 2007. A wonderful french theme was seen throughout the night by caviar, cheese, muscians, and even special appearances - can you see her in the mirror? The Nicolaysen Art & Discover Center is an oasis of creativity that supports many local artists, not only in Casper but throughout Wyoming. They have a wonderful children's area for many of their classes and workshops geared towards little hands. Looking for something a little bit different, look at their gift shop! As you can tell from my infrequent posts, my life has been rather hectic. However, life has been wonderful! I am excited to see that I am settling into a style of photography and recognizing what is needed to create those images that evoke strong emotion from most people - thank you to all who have helped me get to this point. Welcome Caleb Jonathon! He arrived yesterday at 2:12 and was happy to oblige his auntie Kami for his first photo shoot at about an hour old. Isn't he precious?! Those perfectly formed little hands, toes, and ears. How proud his momma and daddy are! Caleb's big sister Lena is waiting for the chance to hold him and see that the baby is no longer in Momma's belly. Congratulations!

We'll be closed May 11 to May 22. Robert is graduating from law school, and we're moving to Casper, WY! Of course the Laramie studio will remain open at the Mountain Valley Beauty and Bridal store with me coming to Laramie for weddings and shoots. The Casper studio will be out of our home (a house is included with Robert's job!). I can't wait to find the best lighting and locations around Casper!

Kami's thesis update

As many of you know, my thesis defense has been rescheduled to sometime this summer (date coming soon!) as I was not giving my committee enough time to read my paper prior to my defense and already had to pay the same amount to graduate either in the spring or summer.

These shoots have been styled after an awesome photographer and person, Davina Fear (http://www.davinafear.com). For my thesis project, I have been emulating Davina in both how her pictures look as well as the experience she creates to capture the images. Davina defines her pictures as real, fun & passionate. I'll be defending or presenting my thesis - Davina Fear Style: A Photographic Translation by Kami Shober next Tuesday May 1, 2007 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the University of Laramie in Wyoming in the Arts & Sciences Building in room 226. The presentation will consist of a lot of photos - feel free to come see the defense! The presentation will take about 30-60 minutes, then my committee will determine if I have met the requirements for my master of arts in Communications.

Lena celebrated her two-year birthday with a Little People Farm Animal theme, with a spice cake designed & created by Icing on the Cake/Cathy Wilkerson, and big bouquet of balloons!
Lena watched Nemo snuggled in with Uncle Mike

while Daddy made delicious toasted french bread melts, and Mommy put out the cute farm plates.

Lena sat on Grandpa's lap while her cousins helped her blow out the candles. Of course, everyone got a turn to blow out the candles. Look at those smiles on Grandma and cousin Anya!

Jameson & Addison are 6 months old!

Jameson & Addison loved the studio lights and modeled for an entire hour! Mom and Dad were right there to catch them should one happen to sit up too much. Jameson is fascinated with his toes and loves to just have his hand around some toes. Addison still reaches out and holds the closest hand. After the shoot, Mom and Dad were giving them a bit of love - look at those smiles! I loved our afternoon together and can't wait to see how they grow! - Kami

Faith's Cute Kid Contest shoot

Faith and Tanya, her mom, joined me in the studio yesterday to create a cute kid portrait. Since Faith was having so much fun and not minding the flash of the studio lights, we just kept shooting! Tanya had brought in several shirts that just bring out Faith's big baby blue eyes - although those eyes stand out on their own as you can tell! Can you see where Mommy & Daddy are wrapped around Faith's precious little fingers? Faith snuggled with me while Tanya filled out paperwork - good thing she can't talk yet, I would have given her anything she wanted. Jennifer & Fred's Environmental Engagement Shoot

Jennifer & Fred joined me last night at Camplex Park to take a walk. We enjoyed the park and Jennifer & Fred braved the cold wind. Fred, a firefighter (or as my nephew says - fire-de-fight-der), put on his gear for the picture that reminds him of leaving his sweetie when a call comes in. Jennifer & Fred climbed all around the firetruck. Jennifer was tempted to wear that cowboy hat on the floor there by the gear. With the sun setting, we headed to the nearby fishing lake park. Jennifer loves the swings, and we found another firetruck at the park! The wind got a little colder by the water, but we were enjoying ourselves too much to notice (ok, we noticed a little bit...that wind was cold!). Thank you Jennifer & Fred for a wonderful evening! Karlee's cute kid contest pictures

Karlee and her mom, Kym, joined me in the studio earlier this week for Karlee's cute kid contest shoot. Karlee loves to have her picture taken and did a great job reading with Kym. After playing a quick game of catch, I edited pictures while Karlee served her mom apple juice, cranberry juice, and then a round of lemonade. To the untrained eye, the spice container once held black pepper, but to those who look further see the cup filled to the brim with which ever color of juice you can imagine! Feeling a bit blah the other day, I took my camera with me while I went about my errands. Vivid color was catching my eye. Here are a few of my favorite. Kassi & Kim joined me in talking to the couples that attended the 2007 Laramie Bridal Show in the UWYO Union Ballroom. We enjoyed seeing new and old friends and catching up. Kim and Kassi have both missed their callings - they excel at our low-key sales approach. Mountain Valley Beauty and Bridal showcased their gowns in a walking fashion show. We took a quick minute to photograph the ladies - I was asked by this one if her and the other flower girl were included when I said "ladies". Of course, my answer was Yes!

I had the pleasure of meeting Melissia Edwards & Newly Lemons. Melissia was modeling for MVBB, so Newly came to the Union in a tie for a quick traditional engagement shoot. I am hoping they will humor me with doing our new street engagement session - they go and play and I go play with the camera. Thanks Melissia and Newly for working quickly with me!

This year's charity, the Heifer International, gives animals and training to families in need world-wide to help them become self-reliant. Our goal is to give a Joy to the World: two sheep, four goats, a heifer and two llamas. We're curious which studio location can raise more - will Gillette or Laramie win the coveted title? Maytag, the horse, was quite happy to take the kids around the yard with many pauses for a tasty mouthful of grass.
